FOS – Why do it? We raise money for OUR MISSION - never for our budget!

3 Goals of 2016 Family FOS The first goal of the 2016 Family Friends of Scouting Campaign, is to: Reach every family! Let’s ensure that every family has the opportunity to financially support the strong mission of Scouting in your Pathway to Adventure Council.

3 Goals of 2016 Family FOS The second goal of the 2016 Family Friends of Scouting Campaign, is to: Focus on Impact Scouting changing lives! Hasn’t it changed yours or someone you know? Scouting improves communities! Scouting makes a difference!

3 Goals of 2016 Family FOS The third goal of the 2016 Family Friends of Scouting Campaign, is to: Raise $538,739 Using a new approach to goal setting, over 75 dedicated district and community scouters and staff SET THEIR GOALS based on potential! Increase amount of families giving and Increase the average size of gift

Successful presentations Presentation should be between 6-10 minutes Ask some Scouts or the leaders to hand out the brochures and pens to each parent prior to beginning the presentation. Ask the Unit Leader to fill out card and be the first to bring it up at the end of presentation –Ask them to share that is important for the mission.

Top Slice- 1-1½ mins- Introduction Behold the Image of Scouting!! –You’re an ambassador for the mission of Scouting! –WHAT AN HONOR!! My name is…….I am here tonight to talk about the opportunity to invest in our youth and our mission. –Something you feel comfortable with- NOT LONG! –Can use the BSA mission –Assure that you will be brief AND BE BRIEF! –Share that your goal is to reach every family with the message focus on the family and investing in their children.

The MEAT!! 4-5 minutes Video- if that is your format. –(Proceed to bottom slice after video) Best practice is a compelling/heartfelt story..... –Why Scouting is important? Scouting made a difference in your life or someone you know Mentoring and adult bonding for a Scout of a single parent Making camp available for those who need help Life saving skills in action How a special needs youth life has changed because of Scouting

The MEAT!! 4-5 minutes –Community Service –Compelling Eagle Project, –Scouting for Food, –Thousands of hours of community service –CASIS (Center for the Advancement of Science in Space) Three Scout Units in our Council will be sending an experiment to the International Space Station! Scouting introduces young people to their life’s work through –The Merit badge program –Religious awards and A Scout is Reverent –Community Serivce –Exploring - Our work with Construction Trade and Unions, law offices, etc.

The MEAT!! 4-5 minutes For every 100 boys who join Scouting 1 will save a person’s life with what he learned through Scouting 1 will save his own life with what he learned through Scouting 2 will become medical professionals 10 will have their first exposure to organized religion 2 will become active leaders in their church or synagogue 10 will discover a career or lifetime hobby from the merit badge program 2 will join law enforcement 1 will become a fire fighter 4 will earn the Eagle Scout rank 16 will return to Scouting as adult volunteers

The MEAT!! 4-5 minutes Did you know that… 11 of the 12 men who have walked on the moon were Scouts; 75% of FBI agents were Scouts; 80% of the graduates from U.S. military academies were Scouts; 70% of U.S. Rhodes Scholars were Scouts; and there are currently 32 Eagle Scouts in congress.

The MEAT!! 4-5 minutes An investment in our Scouts is an investment in their future – It’s guaranteed to grow!

Bottom Slice- 2 minutes- The Ask “Our goal is 100% participation in investing in your son and investing in our mission.” (At this point you can call up a scout and hand him a flashlight, briefly crank the flashlight before handing it to the Scout and after you hand him the flashlight, pick up the pledge card. “As our way of saying thank you for participating - everyone that makes a donation tonight will receive a special “people powered flashlight.” (The Scout may now return to his seat- let him keep the flashlight for his help.)

Bottom Slice- 2 minutes- The Ask Review how to give –Briefly but thoroughly go through the community specific pledge card, make reference to supporting Scouting in our Community. Let them know they can make a pledge, or a payment tonight. –Cover the various portion like payment and billing options. They can also make a pledge on their phone, instructions are on the bottom of the brochure.

Bottom Slice- 2 minutes- The Ask Closing the ask –“While every donation helps support the mission, we would like every family to personally make a gift that is important to you.” –“Thank you for listening to my story and thank you for being such wonderful Friends of Scouting.” –“It would be a great honor to be able to share what you generously donated tonight, so please take a minute to fill out your cards and send them over to me so I can give a report in ten minutes. – again thank you!”

The paperwork Pride in Packets! –The more information the better! –Please turn in as soon as possible Folks who write checks are counting on your diligence –Contact a FOS Team member ASAP after the presentation –Note: there is a spot at the bottom of the turn in form for name and contact info of who will be responsible for the follow up for that unit Be sure to have a conversation and make sure you have the right person- NOT JUST A NAME! Follow up campaign –Creating a resources page on the PTAC website with tools for follow-up
