Designing a Miniature Golf Hole video clip video clip video clip

Standards MGSE6.G.1 Find area of right triangles, other triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems. MGSE6.G.2 Apply the formulas V = (length) x (width) x (height) and V= (area of base) x (height) to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real- world and mathematical problems. MGSE6.G.4 Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.

You work for a Design/Build Company that creates miniature golf courses. Mountasia is looking to re-vamp their course (or a few holes) because they are hosting a professional miniature golf tournament and want to attract professional players and their course just isn’t up to par. Your company wants the bid, so you and your team need to get a hole in one PROBLEM

SOLUTION You and your team will each design a scale drawing of a miniature golf hole that contains at least 2 different polygons and at least one 3-dimensional obstacle. You will be given a budget and your holes must be covered with turf and surrounded by some type of railing/brick feature.

What do we know? Make a list of all of those things that you already know about this problem/situation.

What do we need to know? Make a list of all of those things that you need to learn or know in order to adequately solve this problem. Be sure to look at the requirements for design to assist you with making this list (coming soon). Research the answers to these questions. We will also have class activities that will help in finding these answers.

How is the solution presented?
