Basically, these things have to do with the attitudes of our hearts expressed in words, actions, and patterns of behavior.

Bitterness replaced by Kindness, Love, Forgiveness

Bitterness replaced by Kindness, Love, Forgiveness For the unity of the Body & the Glory of God

Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 5:1-2 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor.

I.THE PROHIBITION ~ Put Away Sinful Attitudes, Words, and Actions (4:31) “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you with all malice …”

When we receive blessings in this life and don’t acknowledge that God has given us those blessings; then, when we come up against hard things in this life we become bitter.

Dr. Charles Swindoll

I.THE PROHIBITION ~ Put Away Sinful Attitudes, Words, and Actions (4:31) The attitude expressed by these kinds of words and actions is fundamentally resentment toward the providence of God.

II.THE EXHORTATION ~ Be Kind and Forgiving to One Another (4:32) “… And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you...”

II.THE EXHORTATION ~ Be Kind and Forgiving to One Another (4:32) It is only when we realize that we are the recipients of kindness and forgiveness that we did not deserve, that we are freed from the power of our bitterness to realize that God has been better to us than we dared to dream.

Those who have been forgiven the most are able to love the most.

III.THE MOTIVATION ~ Follow Christ’s Example of Love (5:1-5) “ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor.”

III.THE MOTIVATION ~ Follow Christ’s Example of Love (5:1-5) The key to not being bitter but better is realizing what God has done for us.

III.THE MOTIVATION ~ Follow Christ’s Example of Love (5:1-5) … It leads to a congregation of people who are able to forbear with one another’s sins, who are able to be kind and tender-hearted toward one another, who are able to forgive one another, who are fixed on doing good for one another, who want to encourage one another, and build each other up.
