THE PORTFOLIO: AN INTRODUCTION The subject matter is you.

The portfolio process provides  an opportunity for AOFE graduates to demonstrate the skills necessary to move successfully from high school to the world of work/education.

Basic Steps To Prepare Your Portfolio  Work on the portfolio for the term  Understand the language  Meet all of the deadlines  Collect good Portfolios (ARTIFACTS)  Select your best portfolios since 9 th grade  Keep a folder (flash drive) for  Think about who will be your mentor  Turn it in on time

Due Dates  Portfolio:  Academic Focus  Artifacts Due March 17,2014  Write UP Due March 18, 2014  Special Interest Area  Artifacts Due March 25, 2014 Write up Due March 31,2014  College and Career Readiness  Artifacts Due April 7, 2014  Write up Due April 11, 2014  Final Project is Due:  Digital April 23 rd, 2014  Written April 25 th,  Portfolios will be Collected end of April of 2014  Interviews: to Be Announced.

SENIOR EXIT PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS You must include in your portfolio the following:  Resume, Transcript and Learning Style Survey  Academic Focus Area  Reflection Cover letter (3 Artifacts 3 Introductions with ESL’s) Special Interest Area  Reflection Cover letter (3 Artifacts 3 Introductions with ESL’s) Artifacts of Extracurricular Activities, Sports, etc.  School to Career Plan (College and Career Readiness)  Reflection Cover letter (3 Artifacts 3 Introductions with ESL’s)  3 Artifacts ( College Essay, College Acceptance, Skills Assessment / Connectedu.com Career Plan

Aspects Of The Portfolio Left To YOUR Creativity  Be creative but mature  Presentation and content DO matter  You may be creative with the following items:  Cover page (is a must)  Table of contents  Dividers between sections  You May create an electronic portfolio if you wish to obtain an honors grade

Résumé The résumé can be created in Connectedu and/or word. Make sure that it is updated. The learning style can be created in Connectedu.com or careerzone.com

Your Portfolios will be  Also graded on the ESLR (Expected School-wide Learning Result)  See Examples on Pages 16 of the Exit Portfolio Packet. If you are a transferred student you are expected to provide only the work from the year in which you started at AOFE.

Reminder The Portfolio needs to demonstrate that you have thought about YOU. Each teacher will provide you with the Graded Portfolio for your each content area. Feedback, Grade, Rubric should be on your Artifact Portfolio Project.

Questions and Concerns  Should be addressed to your English Teacher  Mentor  Guidance Counselor  College Advisor.  Business Teacher

Academic Accomplishments  Highlight academic strengths. Highlight any skills/knowledge that you have obtained in an academic class at AOFE.  Choose 3 samples  May be from any academic area You may not use extra-curricular activities

Transcript  Include a copy of your transcript in your senior exit portfolio.  See Mrs. Herrera, Ms. Morones, Ms. Leon for a copy of it.

Digital Portfolio Option  You still need to have a binder.  Collection place until items are digitized.  teachers will verify you have met the deadlines.  Final product needs to be placed on a disk and placed in the binder.  teacher / advisor needs to make sure it works.

Honors and Activities List  Can be listed in two sections: "honors" and "activities.“  Organize by school year or by category.  Do not use abbreviations or acronyms.  Include certificates of recognition and achievement, newspaper articles, pictures, letters of intent, scholarship offers from college or university that you have saved. You must limit this to eight pages.

THE PRESENTATION YOU WILL PRESENT YOUR PORTFOLIO TO AN ASSIGNED TEACHER/ PREPARE TO HAVE AN AUDIENCE  The team will be a teacher, a business person, a group of 11 th graders and/or other citizens.  Before your interview, the team will have read and discussed  your portfolio to make sure you have complied with all artifacts.

Before the Interview  There will be additional senior meeting on the presentation process closer to those March dates.

Did You Pass?  Your Mentor and Observer will decide the grade you deserve by using a rubric.
