Our Daily Schedule  8:30-9:20 – Guided Reading  9:20-10:15 – Teacher Directed Reading  10:15-11:05 – Teacher Directed Math  11:05-11:55 – Specials  11:55-12:45 – Lunch/Recess  12:45-1:30 – Science  1:30-2:15 – Social Studies  2:15-3:20 – Writing and Grammar

Communication  Agenda  Friday Folders – This year there is yellow weekly behavior sheet that needs to be signed weekly.  Progress Reports/Report Cards – Please sign and return a copy.  Newsletters – These come home weekly. Please check the newsletter for important information and updates.  Weebly class website – please view these for additional resources for each subject.

Agendas  Please check agenda nightly and sign or initial.  Agendas are our primary means for communication. Please check these nightly for important updates and behavior monitoring.  These are taken to guided reading and the teacher will make notes as needed.  Updated reading levels are on a label in the front of their agenda.

Homework  READ, READ, READ!!!!  Please read with your child nightly. This helps to build their fluency and confidence in classroom reading.  Study interactive notebooks as needed.  Your child will have a homework assignment nightly. In addition to this homework assignment, the students will also be responsible for the vocabulary and spelling words to accompany their weekly story from the basal when noted.

Assessments  We will assess growth and progress throughout the year these assessment are used to drive our instruction.  Goals are specified in the state curriculum.  Students will be aware of the performance expectations for 3 rd grade and will acquire self-monitoring and self- assessing skills to help them maximize their achievement.  In the Spring all 3 rd grade students will take the GA Milestones test. AIMS  County Wide Assessment for reading and math Reading  CBM – fluency  MAZE – CLOZE passage (comprehension) Math MCOMP - Computations

GA Milestones  This is a new assessment that will replace the CRCT.  It will be given to all 3 rd grade students in the areas of Reading/ELA, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies  Reading/ELA – April 16  Writing – April 17  Mathematics – April 21  Science – April 22  Social Studies – April 23

General Grading Information  Your child will receive letter grades in Reading, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  Parent Portal – View grades  Zeros – No teacher will put a grade lower than a 60% for any completed assignment. Incomplete work will not be a choice.  Late work – points will not be deducted for late work.  Homework – Homework should not take longer than 30 minutes each evening. These assignments will be checked but NOT used for a grade.

Specific Grade Information  Assessment of Mastery (End of Unit and Standards assessments) will be weighted more heavily than other assessments. 40% of the student’s total grade will be comprised of these test scores.  Working towards Mastery (including reading tests, spelling tests, projects, vocabulary quizzes, and mini-assessments) will be weighted at 40% of the student’s semester grade.  Classwork ( including participation, group work, general classwork) will be weighted at 20% of the student’s semester grade.

Opportunities for Students  EIP for students who need a little extra help from teachers during Guided Reading.  LEAP afterschool program  Gifted Resource – Daily Math Pullout with Ms. Bradberry. Wednesday is our resource day.
