The Changing Earth Year 7 Science Unit, Term 4

What is this unit about? This unit covers outcomes, or information, from both the Biology and Geology fields of science. These outcomes are; –Explain the biological basis of classification of organisms into major groups. –Describe the formation, composition and cycling of rocks.

What will this unit cover? For this unit, you are aiming to answer the question, “What will the earth by like next millennium?” We will also investigate the following: –How have living things changed? –How might living things continue to change? –Have humans changed? How can you find out? –How have non living things changed? –What forces have driven these changes? –How have humans contributed to these changes? –Will people eventually destroy the earth?

How will this unit work? This unit incorporates many educational aspects including: –Class activities and worksheets –Practical activities –Project research –Learning technologies

The class activities The activities to be covered are located in the shared folder on the ___ drive. Your teacher will instruct you as to how and when you are to complete these activities. You will all completed activities to your teacher for correction.

The projects There are 3 major projects to be completed during this unit. These projects are: –A PowerPoint presentation on classification –A web page segment on physical changes to the earth, and; –A brochure that advertises earth to the galaxy. You will find detailed information and support material to help you with these tasks on the shared folder already mentioned.

Time line for completion It is expected that students will have approximately 6 weeks to work on this unit. A significant amount of that time will be spent using learning technologies. Students will need to submit all activities by _______ for assessment

What will you need? Each lesson, you will need to bring your science text book and work book. You will also need to bring a pen and your diary.
