Standards and Benchmarks Select and apply counting procedures, such as the multiplication and addition principles and tree diagrams, to determine the size of a sample space (the number of possible outcomes) and to calculate probabilities.

Independent and Dependent Events Events are independent events if the occurrence of one event does not affect the probability of the other. If a coin is tossed twice, its landing heads up on the first toss and landing heads up on the second toss are independent events. To find the probability of tossing heads twice, multiply the individual probabilities
