Callum thinks of a number, adds 7 and the answer is 16. Represent this statement as an equation and hence solve the equation. Verify your answer.

Karen thinks of a number, subtracts 17 and the answer is 11. Represent this statement as an equation and hence solve the equation. Verify your answer.

When you multiply a number by 4 and subtract 5 you get 79. What is the number?

When you multiply a number by 6 and subtract 5 you get 43. What is the number?

John is x years old. Anne is three times as old as John. The sum of their ages is equal to 28. How old are John and Anne?

A small bag of cement weighs x kg. A large bag is four times as heavy as the small bag. The medium bag is 5kg lighter than the large bag. Two small bags plus as heavy bag weigh the same as two medium bags. How much does each bag of cement weigh.

A bag contains y amount of yellow marbles. There are five more blue marbles than yellow in the bag and three fewer green marbles than yellow. If the bag contains 32 marbles in total, how many marbles of each colour are in the bag?

To do: In pairs, make 3 questions of your own similar to the previous 7 examples. Then solve all 3 questions.
