Today’s Objectives:

 Classify governments into 3 sets of characteristics 1. Who can participate? 2. The geographic distribution of power within the nation. 3. The relationship between the legislative and executive branches K - Evaluate the strength and weaknesses of various systems of government

 Define systems of governments based on participation 1. Two basic forms – democracy (responsible to the will of the people) and dictatorship (authoritarian in a single person or small group) K - Evaluate the strength and weaknesses of various systems of government

 Identify different ways power can be distributed geographically. 1. There are 3 basic forms: Unitary, Federal and Confederate K - Evaluate the strength and weaknesses of various systems of government

 Describe a government by power distribution between the legislative and executive branches. 1. Parliamentary – voters elect a legislature and a chief executive is drawn from that group 2. Presidential – voters elect a legislature AND a chief executive – both are independent and coequal K - Evaluate the strength and weaknesses of various systems of government
