Problem Statement To create an intuitive infotainment system that can provide a breadth of features to cater to a young adult user group. Main focus is to be able to play music easily. Offer more features for users who want them, but don't let them get in the way of the ability to use system.

Personas

Tasks What does the user want? -To listen to the radio. -To listen to a CD. -To listen to an auxiliary device. -To upload music to a hard drive or compose s. -To keep informed about new artists/songs in his/her favorite genres. -To set radio station presets.

Design Alternative #1

Design Alternative #2

Paper Prototype: Pictures

Paper Prototype: Pictures, cont.

Observations 1. lift screen to turn on the system 2. screen is not a touch screen 3. how to play music if there's no play button 4. changing between radio modes 5. driver's controls are distracting 6. location of help button 7. moving between menus via gesture pad

Conclusions After Pilot User Testing -made changes that didn't alter system functionality but improved how users interacted with and perceived the system After User Testing -a better understanding of how users perceived the system and what was or wasn't intuitive -safety was a value we hadn't stressed sufficiently before
