Literary Terms for the African Literature Unit Satire: a technique used by writers to criticize foolishness & corruption of an individual or a society by using humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule.

Proverb: a brief, traditional saying that contains popular wisdom. “If a child washes his hands he could eat with kings.” (If you prepare and allow yourself to be well trained when you have the opportunity, you will achieve and be favored in due course.)
