Summary  The book Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone is about a boy named Samuel Collier who is a peasant boy. He came from nothing. He tries to get back his mother’s locket when she dies, but there’s only one problem, it’s in a pawn shop. He steals it from the Pawn Shops and runs but get’s caught and held captive by Captain John Smith. He aborts the Mayflower for long over a month, under the deck as a slave but isn’t treated like one. The first beam of light he sees is over Jamestown, Virginia. Read the book to find out what happens to Samuel in Jamestown.

Theme  The Theme of this book is mostly about bravery, adventure, and especially survival in Jamestown. It has A LOT of action that include battles with an American Indian tribe called the Algonquians. There is also A LOT of suspense that includes a bunch of lying and trading. There is also MANY deaths from starvation, sickness, blistering winters, and the harsh battles that were fought.

Climax The Climax of the book Blood on the River is getting to Jamestown and starting all of his adventures. In his adventures he must survive from everything from American Indian attacks to a shockingly short food supply.

Rising Action  They are very afraid that the Indians are going to attack. They also have a very low food supply and think they might die.

Falling Action  The American Indians made peace and trade with the settlers and they begin to get more valuable life saving objects, such as food etc.

Important Parts  1. Captain John Smith signs the Mayflower Compact.  2. Samuel is captured for trying to steal back his mothers locket from the pawn shop.  3. Captain John Smith leaves the New World.  4. The American Indians eventually attack the settlers in Jamestown, Virginia, including Samuel Collier who is the Main Character.  5. Some of the settlers all survive eventually.
