Vocabulary Instruction Based off LINCS vocabulary strategy Professional Development, Summer 2014 Used in West Wing with success Uses trigger word and/or picture to help link the definition of the word to the word its self Began with flash cards Ultimately morphed into a flip book

Unit Test Data Unit Test before vocabulary instruction was established Average of all four classes was 47% Unit Test after vocabulary instruction was established Average of all four classes was 72%

Reflection Would ultimately want students to be learning words through content specific text Strategy can be applied for any subject As students have more practice with the strategy they can also include a sentence or “story” related to the word My goal is to continue teaching strategies for vocabulary, note taking, and reading dense texts
