History & Mission DRAM (formerly the Database of Recorded American Music) was founded to disseminate music of cultural and academic value that is difficult to acquire through the commercial marketplace Grew out of New World Records, a non-profit record label operating since 1975 DRAM, also non-profit, continues with funding from the Robert Sterling Clark and The Andrew W. Mellon foundations and participating libraries

Content DRAM’s content is unique –Currently over 1,500 CDs (almost 10,000 compositions) –Diverse New World Records American music recordings Folk to opera, Native American to jazz, 19th century classical to early rock, musical theater, contemporary, electronic and beyond –Other labels currently signed (content in process of being added to DRAM) include: CRI, Albany, innova, Cedille, XI, Pogus, Deep Listening, Mutable, Cold Blue Music, Artifact Recordings, Frog Peak Music, Lovely Music, Mode, Open Space, Cold Blue Music –Alliances with other major and independent labels and archival sources are crucial to DRAM's goal of collecting unique, difficult- to-find recordings for educational use and scholarly research

Functionality Web streaming using QuickTime player (6.5.2 or later preferred) –QuickTime Based Play: With pause & point specific start –Album and track level listening Cd-Quality 192kbps streaming audio No limit to simultaneous users Browsing and Keyword Searching Available –Browse by composer, performer, instrument and more –Lucene based search engine for key word searches

Functionality: Browsing Select a browsing area from main page Browse entire list, or jump to a particular letter

Functionality: Searching Enter “Search” on main page –The simpler, the better (use one term where possible) –Use a composer’s name, type of work, or album or track title –Not case sensitive Search results retrieve track and album results

Functionality: Listening to Music Select an album or track after browsing or searching by choosing the icon or from the list Choose to read liner notes, Play album Or play a single track.
