12 out of 32 local authorities declared AQMAs in 2008 of which 8 have been for PM 10 (or PM 10 & NO 2 ) = 14 PM10 related AQMAs A reduction of just 2 ug of PM 10 can mean the difference between declaring or not declaring an AQMA in many Scottish local authorities The cumulative impact of biomass boilers on PM 10 & PM 2.5 loads in urban areas can be significant and will make it difficult to achieve exposure reduction targets The ratio of PM 10 :PM 2.5 measured in Scotland is consistent with the European average of 0.65 validating the figures proposed by the SG or future targets for both pollutants
