The Events of the American Civil War

Was It Bull Run or Manassas? “Today will be known as BLACK MONDAY. We are utterly and disgracefully routed, beaten, whipped by secessionists.”

Union Victories: Land and Sea (1862)

James LongstreetStonewall Jackson J.E.B. Stuart Joseph Hooker Ambrose Burnside George Meade

Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg) September 17, 1862

We were shooting them like sheep in a pen. If a bullet missed the mark at first it was liable to strike the further bank, angle back, and take them secondarily. the most deadly fire of the war. Rifles are shot to pieces in the hands of the soldiers, canteens and haversacks are riddled with bullets, the dead and wounded go down in scores.

Where’s Lincoln? ???

“The Harvest of Death” Gettysburg July 1-3, 1863

“The results of this victory are priceless.... The charm of Robert E. Lee's invincibility is broken. The Army of the Potomac has at last found a general that can handle it.”

"Goodbye; you can never know what this has cost me."
