 This regiment was stationed in Texas from 1869 to 1880  They were to fight off Indians over the Staked Plains  Served as a supply unit for various cavalry units in Texas and New Mexico.  They also needed to fight off horse thieves and guard strategic points

 24 th was made up of two regiments, the 38 th and the 41 st on November 1 st 1869  The regiment was originally made in the aftermath of the U.S. Civil War as a segregated unit  People in the regiment mostly made up of veterans of the U. S. Colored Troops or freed slaves  They served throughout the western United States while in activation

 They served from the 1866 to 1946  In 1870 the regiment was placed along the Mexican border and New Mexico for the next ten years  They provided border security, building roads and telegraph lines, and sometimes attacking Indian bands  The 25 th constructed over 1,000 miles of roads and 300 miles of telegraph wire all over west Texas

 In th was transferred to the Great Plains mostly in Dakota territory  Parts of the 25 th reg. took part in the last major Indian campaign, the Pine Ridge Campaign of  In 1894 several companies of the 25 th were deployed to break up a strike on the Northern Pacific Railroad it was quickly ended

 On the July 1, 1898 the colored regiments made and attack on El Caney  Men from the 25 th were the first on top of the summit  Private T.C. Butler of H company (25 th infant.) captured the Spanish flag  Officer from the 12 th infantry took credit for capturing the flag  Spanish surrendered on the 14 th of July, 25 th was closer to Santiago than all other regiments.

 The regiment was organized on September 21, 1866 in New Orleans  The men enlisted received $13 per month, plus rooming, boarding, and clothing  The men were enlisted for five years.  The horses that they got came from St. Louis, Missouri

 In 1898, the 9th regiment served in the Battle of Las Guasimas and the Battle of San Juan Hill  They rode alongside Roosevelt’s Rough Riders  In 1899 and in 1904 the 9 th cavalry joined with other cavalry and infantry formed a park system  They fought against Pancho Villa in Mexico in 1916

 9 th cavalry was assigned to the 3 rd Calvary Division and transferred to the 2 nd Calv. Div. to help in World War 2  The 9 th did not serve as a unit in that war.  They were later transferred to the Mediterranean to be of use to other units  The 9 th was discharged on March 7, 1944 in North Africa

 Colonel Benjamin Grierson founded the 10 th Calvary regiment in 1866  Life in camp(Fort Leavenworth) was not pleasant because their fort commander was a racist and did not want blacks in a regular army  He made life for them as difficult for them as could  Grierson had them transferred to Fort Riley
