04-07 Tech Plan Columbia School District #400 Summary

Key Change from Prior Tech. Planning Process Foundation is learning goals from School Improvement Plans of each building District plan is RESPONSE to those goals, and articulates how they will assist buildings in reaching them Timelines and Benchmarks/Budget and Funding Sources/Evaluation integrated into other sections

“Creative Tensions” Feds require 3-year district technology plans; most building SIP plans are 1-year plans (sometimes 2-yr, occasionally 3-yr) Needs should be identified at building level in SIP plans, but may need district help to achieve them (i.e., funding, PD) Buildings may lack expertise to identify how technology can help meet goals Sufficient time for planning vs. deadlines

Elementary Goal: To provide all students highly engaging work with an emphasis on work that has meaning in their lives, that has a product focus, and is delivered in a safe environment.

Middle School Goal To provide all students highly engaging work with an emphasis on content that is aligned with local and state standards (WASL) and that is delivered in a safe environment.

High School Goal: To provide all students highly engaging work with an emphasis on work where acceptable product standards are clearly defined and where there is opportunity for affirmation from people who are significant in their lives.

District Response Patterns of Engagement: Ongoing training in evaluation of student engagement and lesson design protocols. Equipment Needs: Continue to replace non-standard hardware in classrooms with OSPI standards-based equipment. Preparations for Tech Levy III to be run in Fall Affirmation of Performances / Product Focus: Develop skills/procedures and purchase technology to support public display of student work / projects / and performances. Family access to student records.
