UK Interest & Input to the Factories of the Future Horizon 2020 Roadmap. © ActionPlant 2011

The objective of the ActionPlanT project. © ActionPlant 2011 For Europe to hold on to its global leadership and excellence in manufacturing, it is imperative that improvements at both the technological and the awareness level are made for ICT-enabled manufacturing processes. This can be done only through a thorough analysis which will help understand the fundamental driving factors of the future manufacturing landscape - both in terms of quantifiable factors such as technology as well as of other more qualitative factors such as politics, environment, and societal needs. ActionPlanT is set out to address the improvement in this respect of the short, medium and long term role of ICT in the manufacturing industry. On a more holistic level, ActionPlanT will outline the vision of the future role of ICT in manufacturing for the Horizon Moreover, it will explore a concept of disseminating knowledge and future requirements through a well established platform consisting of manufacturing and ICT experts from both academia and industry.

The objective of the ActionPlanT project. © ActionPlant 2011 The salient objectives of ActionPlanT are the following:  Increasing awareness and knowledge in Europe how ICT can make manufacturing more efficient and agile in a cross-industrial context.  Providing best practice examples and increasing the understanding how ICT- facilitated investments can improve productivity and sustainability in business processes.  Offering the means to better understand the use of ICT in order to have an impact on the individual manufacturing, service and business processes as well as the overall performance.  Creating a more coherent ICT for the Factories of the Future community of experts.  Developing and publishing an ICT for Manufacturing vision for the period beyond FP7 with the help of the community of experts. This document will be used as a basis for further definition of relevant future research in this area.  The ActionPlanT Vision is also available to download online at project.eu/public/documents/vision.pdfhttp:// project.eu/public/documents/vision.pdf

Contributing to the ActionPlanT project. © ActionPlant 2011 To contribute to the ActionPlanT Project you will need to complete the following slides:  Introduction and your organisation  The challenges and barriers facing ICT for Manufacturing in your organisation  Please describe the barriers and the foreseen ICT Solutions needed to overcome the barriers  Your proposals for projects and the maturity of any proposed ICT Solutions that you propose The Manufacturing Business Web will give you an overview of the Research Roadmap developed to-date so please take a look over this. The guidelines for contributing presentations will give you an overview of the potential topics which can be added to or simply used as guidance. All projects will then be assessed by the ActionPlanT project team and feedback given to the EU Commision and the Factories of the Future teams for assesment and contribution to the Horison 2020 roadmao by year-end.

ICT research on Manufacturing Business Web © ActionPlant 2011 ICT research on Manufacturing Business Web (MBW), is a concept coined by ActionPlanT and seen as an enabler for the ICT for manufacturing vision. The timeline is split in three ways corresponding to the three pillars of MBW, namely Enablement, Functional, and Business. The time frames are indicated on top and each window has duration of three years, corresponding to the typical longevity of an EU project.

Guidelines for Contributing Presentations Topics including but not limited to: Platforms o Bringing the Supply Chain together o Holistic manufacturing platforms (hosted, on-demand, cloud…) o Graphical composition frameworks and platforms o Platform for holistic PLM; services as part of PLM? High performance computing Systems and Tools o Software engineering, frameworks, tools, solution for developing ICT for manufacturing Human centric o New Consumption strategies (user interfaces) for ICT in Manufacturing environment o Collaboration and cooperation on workshop level o More Intelligent human interaction (interaction man-machine) © ActionPlant 2011
