8-Mar-16S.Movchan Straw manufacturing and QC3 Anvil (June 2010) Anvil was used for straw manufacture. A metal deposit was found on it surface. Deposit was study at CERN: - diameter – about 2 mm - it is hill and it height is about (15-20) µm - material - mainly Al (due to used Al tape for straw manufacture) Deposit can be easy removed by fine-grained emery paper Was observed that anvil quality surface is the same after deposit was removed Recommendation: - this part of anvil to do easy changeable and used one per straw - remove deposit by fine-grained paper and clean this parts by ultrasonic bath - for this start re-design of anvil - investigate possibility of anvil hard coating

8-Mar-16S.Movchan Straw manufacturing and QC8 Straw machine: conclusion Ready: Clean room: - (10-35) pc of dusts with size less than 0.5 μm per liter – OK! - room T and H monitoring Straw machine: - straw transportation mechanics: - forward speed – (4-22) mm/sec, nominal – 9 mm/sec - reverse speed – 22 mm/sec - ultrasonic generator reference frequency monitoring by scope - seam on-line QC by microscope In assembly: - tape pretension mechanics In fabrication: - tensile machine - storage box for serial straws (see talk of V.Elsha) - straw boxes depository (see talk of V.Elsha)

8-Mar-16S.Movchan Straw manufacturing and QC9 Straw machine: conclusion Re-design started: - anvil - “rollers” for transfer tape to round shape Straw long term storage: 3 options of “nipples” proposed Design: Set up for straw filling by gas at dP=1.2 bar Checker for pressure inside filling straw during it storage Problem: Electrostatic charge of tape – due to this effect straw transportation speed is non stable. Shuttle speed is constant. => Straw – elastic body.
