How Many Sessions Can RUSA have? Mid-Winter Institutes: No Limit Pre-Conferences at Annual:No Limit Programs at Annual:11

Competitive Slots at Annual 2017 Each section has a “guaranteed” competitive slot. Competitive slots open up if: More than one section uses its guaranteed slot for the same program A section chooses not to use its guaranteed slot A section decides to turn its program into a webinar, course, or deep dive
Competitive Slots at Annual 2017 Since competitive slots can open up, RUSA-level committees can submit more than one proposal. If they do, they need to indicate which has first priority, which has second priority, etc…
How to Submit Each section has its own process for soliciting ideas for institutes, pre-conferences, and programs. If you have questions about the process used by your section(s), it is best to contact the chair of that section: See
What Makes a Good Program? Topic that is… Timely Relevant to RUSA’s members and others Fresh/original Presenters who… Have knowledge of the topic Have presentation experience Objectives that are… Realistic Expressed clearly High in quality
What Makes a Good Program? Funding status, if funding is required Programs requiring substantial funding that has not already been secured are less likely to be approved Sponsorship status Only programs sponsored by a RUSA section or RUSA-level committee will be approved
What Makes a Good Program? Consider partnering with other RUSA sections and/or with other ALA divisions!
Money Can speakers be paid or reimbursed? Librarians and/or ALA Members can not receive RUSA funding to present at Midwinter or Annual due to ALA’s rules. Non-librarians who are also not members of ALA could receive funds from RUSA.
Money Can speakers be paid or reimbursed? If funds for a speaker are requested, it is best to think in terms of an honorarium rather than flight/meals/hotel etc. Each financial request will be considered by CPCC and RUSA on a case-by-case basis.
