Exploring the worlds of Dali and Magritte

Surrealistic methods include:  Levitation  Double images / repetition of objects  Dislocation  Metamorphosis  Transformations  Reverse laws of nature  Scale change  Juxtaposition of incongruous objects  Symbolism

Painted images from his dreams and memories. His work allowed him to express his feelings, fears and obsessions.

Do you remember your dreams? Do any of your dreams repeat?

Do you have nightmares? Do you dream in color or b x w?

Do you have moments of deja vu? Has a dream ever come true?

In his painted world, objects turn into rocks, huge apples float, trains roar from fireplaces, faces are hidden, and men rain from the sky.

Name a movie or book that has surreal devices. What is your favorite scene from that movie or book?

What is your greatest fear? Does this fear ever appear in dreams?

Surrealistic methods include:  Levitation  Double images / repetition of objects  Dislocation  Metamorphosis  Transformations  Reverse laws of nature  Scale change  Juxtaposition of incongruous objects  Symbolism

Project criteria:  Use a pencil and manikin in some combination…one is the focal point  Total of 4-5 overlapping objects in the final composition  2 Surrealistic techniques (see list)  Plan your negative spaces…overlap and have variety in sizes, shapes, colors, value contrast  Have a specific color scheme (complementary, analogous, primary, cool, warm or monochromatic)
