Presentation transcript:

1. Read Matthew 10:3 What do we know about Levi’s name? He also had the name Matthew. 2. Unscramble the words. Complete the puzzle. Levi was the son of Alphaeus. He was a tax collector. As the crowd of people followed Jesus, he approached the tax booth and spoke to Levi, who also was named Matthew.

Key Point: What wonderful invitation did Jesus give to a sinful tax collector? Jesus called Levi to follow him and become his disciples. Circle the seven phrases that tell how you are like Matthew. A sinner, loved by Jesus, became a follower of Jesus, forgiven by Jesus, happy to follow Jesus, eager to obey Jesus, glad to tell about Jesus.

4. How did Matthew quickly spread the good news about Jesus? Matthew had a dinner and invited his friends so that they could learn from Jesus too. 5. Cross out the incorrect words. Tax collectors, Pharisees, synagogue, Samaritans, Romans 6. Fill in the blanks. The Pharisees thought they were better than other people because they thought they perfectly kept all of God’s commands plus all their own laws.

Key Point: Why did Jesus talk and eat with sinners? Jesus said he came to call sinners to repentance and to become his disciples.

Aim: What special work did Jesus give a sinful tax collector? Truth: Jesus called Matthew a sinful tax collector to be his disciple. Application: Jesus also calls us sinners to be his disciples who follow him and spread his Word. Response: We follow Jesus and tell others that he is their Savior.

 Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For the kingdom, and the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen
