In this lesson you will learn how to recognize and write improper fractions by dividing shapes into equal pieces and then counting those pieces.

It doesn’t matter how small or big the piece, just 1 piece is going to be LESS THAN 1 WHOLE

Proper Fractions The numerator is smaller than the denominator

Improper Fractions The numerator is BIGGER than the denominator

We get improper fractions when we have mixed numbers—wholes and fractions– written in fraction form.
