What is Hydroelectricity Hydroelectricity is electrical power from water. Hydroelectricity is a renewable and a high power resource. It is renewable because water will never run out because of the water cycle. However it still has it’s ups and downs. Lets hope that in the future we will use renewable resources, like hydroelectricity instead of non-renewable resources, like fossil fuels.

By: Charbel Alhaddad

The power plant The purpose of a hydroelectric power plant is to turn water or use water to make electric energy. First they have to make the water from a dam turn a turbine to produce electricity and power the electricity towers to give electricity to nearby homes so they can use heat and lighting and other stuff.

Advantages/Disadvantages 1. No pollution 1. High investment costs 2. Renewable resource 2. Hydrology dependent (precipitation) 3. Water provided by free nature 3. Inundation of land and wildlife habitat 4. Reduces greenhouse effect 4. Loss or modification of fish habitats 5. Cheap to run once built 5. Fish entrainment or passage restriction 6. The technology is reliable and proven over time 6. Displacement of local populations

Why Hydroelectricity? Hydroelectricity stands out other renewable resources because you can control what you are using. You can also get a lot of power compared to solar and wind energy. Soon I hope that we start using renewable energy instead of nonrenewable energy. Hydroelectricity will change the world!
