A LITTLE ABOUT ME… Graduate of Cobb County Schools Undergrad at University of Georgia-English Education Master’s Degree from Georgia State University-English Education This is my 14 th year at HTMS!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS YEAR…  Expand on skills Reading – Articles/Stories (fiction and non-fiction) and Novels (parallel and whole class) writing grammar vocabulary  Prepare for High School  Firm Expectations

NOVEL STUDIES  Animal Farm by George Orwell  Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare  To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee  The Book Thief by Mark Zusak (Parallel option)  The Summer of My German Soldier (Parallel option)

HOW CAN I HELP MY STUDENT BE SUCCESSFUL?  Access Synergy weekly to maintain progress (18 weeks)  Encourage participation in class  Ask about due dates  Get them a flash drive  Sign up for Remind!

HONORS LITERATURE REQUIREMENTS?  Recommendation requires a 90 or above for the FIRST semester  Usually occurs late January/early February  High School options  Freshman Literature (Honors/On Grade Level)  American, British, World Literature  Advanced Placement courses  NOTE: Students need four years of English to graduate/HOPE
