AT IN THE IEP

Just Get It In There! There is no wrong way to put AT in the IEP. May write down features of AT vs specific device names Create Implementation Plan (non-legal document) to put specific information down What AT was considered? What AT is being used? How the AT is being used? How the AT is being managed?

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act - IDEA Consideration of Special Factors AT considered for all students on an IEP AT as required as a part of the child’s Special Education Related Services Supplementary Aids and Services AT used in the child’s home Determined by the IEP team

Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology - QIAT 1.Guidelines exist for documenting AT needs in the IEP 2.All AT services are written in the IEP 3.IEP shows AT is a tool to help student reach goals and progress in the general curriculum 4.IEP shows AT contributes to measurable and observable outcomes 5.IEP shows clear/complete description of AT devices and services provided and used qiat.org

TRANSITIONING WITH AT

It’s All In the Plan No matter who purchases the AT for a student, there can be a plan to transition that AT with the student. There is a Purchase/Sale Agreement Form that can be used.

QIAT – AT Transition 1.Transition plans address AT needs 2.Transition planning empowers the student 3.Advocacy related to AT use is recognized as critical 4.AT requirements in the receiving environments are identified 5.Transition planning has an individualized timeline 6.Transition plans address specific equipment, training, and funding issues qiat.org

AT Technical Assistance Guide Purchase/Sale Agreement Form can be used to determine the depreciated cost of the AT and transfer its sale to another entity Public and private sources for funding are available, and parents/guardians may choose to purchase the AT as well.
