PMP Certification WHY PMP Certification? May 9, 2009www.TAPaPM.org4

Demand for Project Management The fact that US $12 trillion, 1/5 of the world's gross domestic product (GDP), is being spent on projects this year reflects the global need for project management. A critical gap between the supply and demand of skilled project professionals is already reaching crisis proportions. From Project Management Institute web site May 9, 2009www.TAPaPM.org5

Demand for Project Mgmt (cont.) 2008 Global Executive Survey Results Identify Project Professionals as Vital Job Category In 2008, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world's foremost provider of industry and management analysis, conducted survey of senior executives who were asked to identify the job category most important to their current and future success: Project professionals were identified as the single most important management job category. 97% of the other disciplines they listed were integral parts of the project management profession. 60% stated that senior management collaborates directly with project professionals. More than half of them indicated that this collaboration would increase. The Supply is Falling Both U.S. General Accounting Office and Australian Government studies revealed one of the causes: the aging of the population. A large percentage (perhaps as high as 30%) of the project management workforce is retiring or will be facing retirement in the next 10 years. May 9, 2009www.TAPaPM.org6

Why Teach Project Management? "Project Management is the entrepreneurial side of business...For people with a strong interest in strategic business activities, like creating and developing business opportunities, allocating appropriate levels of resources, and managing risk at the business portfolio level, a Project Management degree (or Credentials) is probably the best. Students in our Project Management programs are prepared to take senior executive positions in business development." Christopher N. Bredillet, PhD Dean of Postgraduate Programs ESC Lille School of Management (France) May 9, 2009www.TAPaPM.org7

PMI's Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential is globally recognized as the gold standard credential in project management. May 9, 2009www.TAPaPM.org8

May 9, 2009www.TAPaPM.org9 The PMP® credential recognizes Demonstrated knowledge and skill in leading and directing project teams and in delivering project results within the constraints of schedule, budget and resources. Who should apply? Those who lead and direct cross-functional teams to deliver projects within the constraints of schedule, budget, and scope. What do PMP candidates do? Candidates are responsible for all aspects of individual projects for the life of the project.
