QUADRILATERAL. Four sided closed figures are known as ‘QUADRILATERALS’. There are different types of quadrilaterals. They are differ by their properties.
 Rhombus – a parallelogram with four congruent sides.  Rectangle – a parallelogram with four right angles.
A quadrilateral is any 2- dimensional, four- sided shape.
In geometry,a quadrilateral is a polygon with 4sides.
What is 1) A rhombus? 2) A parallelogram? 3) A square? 4) A rectangle?
A quadrilateral is a four-sided polygon with four angles. There are many kinds of quadrilaterals. The five most common types are the parallelogram, the.

What are parallel lines? Angles on Parallel Lines WALT: understand and use angles on parallel lines to solve problems. S1: Discuss with a partner: 1.What are parallel lines? 2.What are perpendicular lines? 3.How do you find the perimeter of a shape? Write your answers in your books. 09/10/12

What shapes can you draw on 4x4 dotty paper, using only perpendicular lines? Draw these on your handouts. Find the perimeters of your shapes.

Key questions How many of them have a perimeter of 12 cm?

Key questions Which type of shape has a different perimeter?

Key questions Why do the cross and the square (3cm x 3cm) have the same perimeter?

Key questions Which shape has the largest perimeter?

Using 5x5 dotty paper, how many different squares can you draw?

Key questions What are the lengths of the sides of your squares? What are the areas of these squares? Tabulate your results, showing side length and area. The numbers 1, 4, 9, 16 are known as square numbers. Why? Why can’t you make an area of 3 squares on this paper?

On 4x4 dotty paper, try to draw these: 1.Five different sized squares 2.Two different rectangles 3.Four different parallelograms 4.Three different shapes with two lines of symmetry 5.The polygon with the largest possible number of sides

Key questions 1.Can you show the lines of symmetry on these shapes? 2.Can you find the areas of some of these? 3.What makes a rhombus different from a parallelogram /square? 4.How many of these shapes could be drawn on 3x3 dotty paper? Do it now.

Reflection 1.Can you tell me/show me what parallel lines are? 2.Can you show me what perpendicular lines are? 3.Can you recall how to work out the perimeter of a shape? 4.Can you recall how to work out the area of some quadrilaterals (which ones)? 5.Were to able to explain your ideas using mathematical concepts?
