Creating the Works Cited Page

What is a Works Cited Page? An alphabetical list of the sources cited in your paper A separate page located at the end of your essay Why do you need a Works Cited Page? To let your reader know what sources you referenced in your paper To avoid plagiarism

What does a Works Cited look like?

How is the Works Cited page formatted? Use a separate page One-inch margins, like the rest of your paper Label the Works Cited page with the title (Works Cited) centered at the top of the page. Do not italicize, bold, or underline. Double space all entries Use the hanging indent (all but first line of the entry is indented 0.5”) for each entry

Writing the MLA style entries Use a citation generator: www.citationmachine.net www.easybib.com Copy & paste the citation from a database (ProQuest, EBSCO) Write the citation using a style guide: www.owl.english.purdue.edu Writing the MLA style entries

Works Cited vs. Bibliography A list of works CITED in your paper Bibliography A list of sources, referenced in your paper OR NOT, on topics related to your paper Gives your audience additional resources to explore to learn more

In-Text Citations Also known as parenthetical citations Located within your paper, after the information from the source (quote, summary, or paraphrases) Citations must correspond to your Works Cited page entry for the source Must include the first word(s) in the left hand margin of the entry on the Works Cite page Examples: (Wordsworth 263) (263) – Use this format if the author’s name is included in the text of your paper. (“Impact of Global Warming”) – Use this format, if there is no author available for the source.
