Weighted Codes

Ex: Determine the check digit that should be appended onto the bank identification number )7(0) + 3(7) + 9(1) + 7(0) +3(0) + 9(0) + 7(0) + 3(1) = 33 2)Therefore the check digit should be three because 33 ends with 3.

Codabar- used for credit cards numbers. An extra digit is added to the end of the number for error detection. A)Find the sum of the digits in the positions: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11,13 and 15 B)Double the results C)Count the number of digits in these positions that exceed the number 4 and add this to the result in part (B) D)Add the sum of the remaining digits E)The check digit must bring the final tally to a number that ends in zero.

Ex: Determine the check digit that should be appended to the codabar number: ) = 25 2)25 (2) = 50 3) = 52 4)52 + ( ) = 68 5) = 70, therefore 2 is the check digit!

International Standard Book Number (ISBN)- is used throughout the world to detect 100% of single and transposition errors.

Ex: Consider the ISBN of the book you are reading: Verify that the number is legitimate.

Code 39

Ex: Find the check digit of the following code: 210SA ZA
