A Way to Make CHEMISTRY Fun (or any subject!) Marissa Deslauriers
The Old Way
The Old Way Very time consuming! Not big enough for the whole class to see Not very interactive Required a lot of preparation and materials
The New Way! Interactive and fun! Easy to use template Everyone loves games, and so do teachers when they are learning games Even juniors/seniors enjoy it Easy to use template Customizable for any subject! Brings about healthy competition
The New Way Www.sciencespot.net/Media/ElementJeopardy.ppt Download free template and fill in questions/answers! Really simple and easy to use! www.teacherspayteachers.com also has some great templates
Template comes prepared with 5 categories (I occasionally only use 4). Money amounts are “clickable” and take you right to the slide with the question!
After advancing to the question, the answer will appear with one more click. Home button provided to get back to the main menu I give students 15 seconds to come up with an answer in their teams.
My Jeopardy Rules 4 teams of 4-5 students each Each team gets a small whiteboard & marker Teams discuss answers, write down their submission and captain hits the buzzer Whoever’s buzzer shows up first on my SmartResponse gets to show their answer! If incorrect answer is given, other teams get a chance All teams participate in final jeopardy and bet up to the amount that they have currently. Running total of points kept on the board.
Chemistry Jeopardy I LOVE using this game for my older students as a test review I see this as an Augmentation, since it is a direct substitute for my old method but it definitely improves my feedback of their understanding I get immediate feedback by listening to the groups & seeing their answers
