Missouri
Jefferson City, Missouri, the state´s capital, was named for Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. Jefferson´s vision for the expansion of U.S. territories led to the Louisiana Purchase. Missouri was part of that purchase.
Black Jack got its name from the Blackjack Oak Trees.
. The state´s "nickname" is the Show Me State. The expression is usually traced to a speech given in 1899 in Philadelphia by Willard D. Vandiver, a Missouri congressman. The southeast corner of Missouri is called the Mississippi Alluvial Plain.
