The State of Social Enterprise Survey 2009 shows that social enterprises are recession-busters SEs are growing despite the recession, with 56% of social enterprises increasing turnover from last year compared with only 28% of other SME's twice as many social enterprises (48%) are confident of future growth compared with 24% of typical SMEs

Social Enterprises play a key role in the provision of public services Over a third of a sample group of social enterprises earned at least 50% of their income from contracts with local councils

Social Enterprises encourage female entrepreneurship 41% of SE board members are female compared with just 12% in FTSE 100 listed companies 26% of SEs are 'women-led' compared to 14% of other SMEs
