INTRODUCTION Session 1

Module Aims This module focuses on issues relating to the performance, management and growth of a business or social enterprises. Using a blend of theory and case studies, students will gain an understanding of how to evaluate the growth potential of a business and how to capture that potential. Issues such as performance (including operational implications); systems; IT and e-business and resource and people management through periods of growth will also be explored in a range of business and social enterprise contexts.

Learning Outcomes LO 1 Analyse and evaluate the growth potential of a business or social enterprise, identifying strengths and weaknesses in the organisations management and sphere of operation. LO 2 Formulate an Enterprise Development Plan to take the enterprise forward in the area of performance and growth Wickham, P. (2006: 5-12)

Approach A combination of lectures and interactive workshops. You will be expected to fully participate in the discussions and activities. Students are required to manage a tutorial and present to the group on a subject of their choosing. They need to engage the rest of the group in an activity.
