My Great Grandpa and Cooke Motors BY: GRACE LIS Topic Statement: My great Grandpa’s car dealership should not be forgotten because of the amount of opportunity that it has provided for our family.

The Dealership that Brought Excitement and Culture to Calgary CD:1 The importance of Cooke Motors was all based on the fact that, “It was the first European car dealership in Calgary that sold the same luxury cars that the Queen drove” (Diana Cooke). CM: The effect that this car dealership had on the community of Calgary was tremendous because it introduced a new culture. The luxury cars brought excitement to the city because it revealed a new sense of pride.

Economic Troubles CD: 1 My great Grandpa was a risk taker because, “He made it on his own during a rough economic time period” (Angela Lis). CM: He got all the courage from his family because they were all going through rough times and he wanted to do something that made him individually successful. After all the years that he spent growing up with a love of cars, he thought that this was his opportunity to do something that would make a change in the province of Alberta.

The Lively Hood of it All CD:1 After all of his hard work and commitment to his company, “He was able to set a starting point for the Cooke familie’s upcoming wealth” (Diana Cooke). CM: He provided jobs for his family that lead to generations of success in car sales. Not only was his family provided for but his six grandchildren were all supported by the success of this business.

The Legacy Lives On CD:1 The Cooke family is still benefitting from my great Grandpa’s courage because, “Still to this day, through Gerald’s sons and grandchildren this car dealership is still selling luxury cars in the city of Calgary” (Diana Cooke). CM: My Uncle Wayne is currently the owner of Cooke motors and is selling the same type of cars in my great Grandpa’s name. He kept the business going after Gerald’s son Donald died because he thought that it was important to keep the tradition ongoing.

Fun Facts about Cooke Motors It was first established in the year of The car dealership still runs to this day. They did not sell any American cars, they only sold sports cars from Britain. It is located along main street of Calgary (5 th Ave).
