Get Going with External Storage Devices

Focusing Questions What is an external storage device? What does it do? What are some examples of external storage devices? What are some differences in the devices? Why are they important? How do you use one?

Guided Practice Demonstrate the function of each. 1. Insert and find the storage device. 2. Move files from the device to the computer. 3. Move files from the computer to the device. 4. Safely remove the device.

Work Time

Getting Started You will have about minutes to work on this. Your job is to back up all the files in My Documents on this laptop cart.

Work Time Step 1 - Break each group up into teams of 3 Step 2 - Distribute even number of laptops to the groups Step 3 - Create a folder on the external device and name it according to each computer number that you have. Step 4 - Copy the information from the My documents folder to the proper folder you created. Step 5 - Repeat for each computer

Share

One group will demonstrate how to back up data. Selected students will share particularly good examples of how files were stored. Discussion about focus questions. Tips and Tricks?
