Bell Ringer What is the difference between insert mode and overtype mode?

Answer Insert Mode: Default mode for MS Word. Existing text move to right as you type to make room for new text Overtype Mode: Replaces text as you type. Existing characters do not shift right to make room for new characters, Instead, new characters delete existing characters as you type.

Review Styles: collection for formatting settings that can be applied to characters or paragraphs. Quick style for formatting common document parts such as titles, headings, subheadings – Paragraph: click anywhere in paragraph  click style name  in style gallery or task pane – You can select a style before you type – Default style is called normal – Preview style by resting mouse pointer over style in gallery

Review Themes are set of coordinated colors, fonts, styles, and effects. The default is Office Themes button is located on the Page Layout Tab – Rest mouse pointer on theme in gallery to preview affect – Helps create different types of documents that have consistent and professional appearance – Click the theme button and review the different colors, fonts, and styles

Words to Know Insert Mode: The method of operation used for inserting new text within existing in a document. – Insert Mode is default Overtype Mode: The method of operation used to replace existing text in a document with new text

Review/Discuss Use ESC key to cancel a command Use Undo, Redo, and repeat command on the Quick Access tool bar

Lets Practice Overtype Open a blank word document Type the following text: Integrated Business Application Can Be FUN!!! – Right click the status bar – Click Overtype on the menu – Close menu – Click file and Options – Click Advanced to display the advanced options – Select “Use the Insert key to control overtype” and “Use overtype mode” – Click OK – Position cursor – Type
