PROJECT ABSTRACT Design and build a notification system for the deaf and hard of hearing to provide a portable alert system Currently, products exist on the market that include non- audible functions but are cumbersome for travel or may require permanent installation Improve upon the previously designed prototype

CUSTOMER NEEDS Set an alarm with a Bluetooth connection on a computer or smartphone Compact and travel ready design Employ the use of high-intensity lights and a bed shaker Uses a long lasting rechargeable battery Add an On/Off switch and ‘Snooze’ button for functionality Reduce manufacturing cost from previous prototype

Housing User interface Signal received indicators Terminate signals Methods of alarming user Bluetooth/ Microcontroller combinations CONCEPTS AS INFLUENCED BY USER SURVEYS

CONCEPTS CONTINUED

ELECTRICAL ARCHITECTURE DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS Pan1325 Bluetooth Transceiver The Pan 1325 required the use of the MindTree EtherMind™ Bluetooth Stack which is only compatible with the MSP430BT5190 microcontroller 1250mAhr Li-PO battery Boost Converter to power high voltage Alert LEDs External Signal/Power Box for Bed Shaker extension

SCHEMATICS

ENCLOSURE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS Aesthetically pleasing design Individual Alert LED square slots for rigidity and simplicity Main PCB bridge connectors Press fit lid for support Ribbing and fillets for strength Screwed enclosure for durability

Two lid closure iterations have been modeled HOUSING - STRESS ANALYSIS
