Arteries Vessels that carry blood and nutrients AWAY from the heart Usually oxygenated blood
Veins Vessels that carry blood TOWARD the heart Usually de-oxygenated blood
Capillaries Smallest blood vessels in the body Oxygen diffuses across membrane into cells… carbon dioxide released as a waste product into blood
