Friday – September 12, 2014 The Storm Wayne sat in front of the TV while a storm raged outside his house. The wind howled, the rain came down in buckets, and thunder boomed loudly. The high winds knocked down a huge oak tree down the street. The tree fell on top of the street’s power line, cutting the electricity to Wayne’s house. Wayne found a flashlight and turned it on. Wayne shone the flashlight ahead of him as he walked down the hallway. As he entered the kitchen, the flashlight batteries died. The room became inky black. Wayne ran into the wall and stubbed his toe. He hollered and jumped on one foot. He bumped into the table, which knocked over his marble jar. Marbles scattered all over the table and floor. Muttsie, Wayne’s dog, jumped up at the noise and ran toward Wayne’s voice. The dog skidded on the marbles. She flew across the floor into her dog dishes, spilling water and food everywhere. Wayne’s cat, Kitty, was showered with water from the spilled dog dish. She jumped to the safety of the counter. She landed on the edge of a cookie sheet sticking out of the dish rack. The cookie sheet flipped over, taking the contents of the dish rack with it.
