Clean Air Act Drafted in Amended 1977 and 1990 This bill affects all major and area sources of pollution within the U.S. including all major, polluting businesses nation wide, such as factories and plants. Ilia Katritch

Purpose/Issues The purpose of this bill is to regulate and reduce the amount of air pollution, both environmentally degrading and toxic from major and area sources, such as factories and cars. This act was implemented because of the large amounts of deaths and illnesses caused by large concentrations of pollutants released from factories. Many organisms and habitats were also affected by the large concentrations of pollutants in the environment. This bill would help reduce cases of illness and death by reducing the concentrations of air pollution in the environment.

Monitoring and Enforcement Major sources are required to get a permit to do business, and many are either required to be inspected by the state or regional office, usually by a special committee, and/or use continuous monitoring devices, the data is also sent to these committees. Enforcement is also regulated by the state administration, which can punish incompliance with a fine, a lawsuit, etc. after a 30 day warning period. If the Administrator finds that the state fails to uphold this law, the same actions can be made against the state.
