The Five Step Writing Process Language Arts By: Rebekah Goff

Introduction This presentation is for your benefit to understanding the five steps to writing a good story. This is part of the academic content standard and is directed towards grades 5 through 7. The objectives are to help you to learn, understand and memorize the five steps therefore, writing becomes natural for each of you. This is an interactive Power Point, so hold on tight and lets get started!

Prewriting Prewriting- This takes place before you begin writing. It’s where you can think about what you want to write about. A great way to start is by making a story web. This then includes the plot, characters, problems/solutions, etc. Creating a web helps to visualize and bring out the creative side in each of you.

Write, Write, Write! Writing-This is the step to writing your first draft. You put all your ideas that you had into paragraph form. This draft then gets revised and corrected before you continue

Edit! Edit- Once your first draft is written, the editing process begins. You can give your paper to your parents, a friend or even a teacher. They must check for grammar, punctuation, sentence flow, spelling and making sure capitalizations and periods are in the correct places

Proofreading Proofreading- Ok now you must read over your story. Look carefully and make sure there aren’t any mistakes and that you like that way your story flows.

PUBLISH!!! Publishing- Wow!! It is already time for you to write your final copy. Take your rough draft and rewrite it on paper or computer, then hand it on in for points, along with your rough draft!
