(4)Why do you think Germany changed their war strategy? Aim: How did World War II begin? Do Now: Trench Warfare Answer the following questions in your notebook

1. Axis Powers: a military and political alliance between Germany, Italy and Japan. Its goals were to achieve vast expansion through aggressive warfare 2. Allied Powers: the nations, primarily China, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and the United States, allied against the Axis 3. Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact: an agreement that guaranteed the two countries would not attack each other.

Read the timeline together as a class. Answer questions on the back of the sheet with your partner. You will need the map and the timeline to answer all the questions.

A: Total War: -means not just armies but whole countries fought in this war. -All factories, people & wealth of nations went toward the war effort B: Global War: -60 nations were involved & up to 40 million people died. C: Scientific War: -new inventions like radar, guided missiles, jet airplanes & the Atomic Bomb changed war forever. -War against Japan ended in August 1945 when the Atomic Bombs were dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki. D: The Holocaust: -the murder of 6 million Jews in German Concentration Camps.
