dMe - Dick Meijer Talen Consultancy 1 CEFR and ELP seminar (Skopje) ELP and self-assessment Workshop 2

dMe - Dick Meijer Talen Consultancy 2 ELP and self-assessment ELP is instrument for self-assessment Biography important Shows what learner ‘can do’ Does not matter: in formal context (school) or informal context (outside school, e.g. internet, holidays etc.) Checklists with ‘can do’s’ Overestimate and underestimate – how to avoid?

dMe - Dick Meijer Talen Consultancy 3 ELP and self-assessment Conditions: –Learners should be familiar with self- assessment activities –Tasks related to CEFR-levels –Clear idea about what kind of performance is necessary for certain level –Related to documents in dossier –More than one performance necessary to assess themselves –Recognition of achieved levels (important in relation to lifelong learning)

dMe - Dick Meijer Talen Consultancy 4 ELP and self-assessment In first session you assessed yourself. You mentioned also ‘ proofs ’. Now we try to go a step further: –What would you do to develop yourself further? –Which learning activities could help you? –Choose per group the two (probably) most successful solutions –Mention at least two arguments why these activities would be very effective!

dMe - Dick Meijer Talen Consultancy 5 ELP and self-assessment ‘Translate' the proofs in an effective learning activity and put them on a poster! Do you find these kind of activities in your textbooks? Give a description of an example! Discussion on the question: are proofs related to a special level or could they be realized on several levels?

dMe - Dick Meijer Talen Consultancy 6 ELP and self-assessment How do we achieve..... –Learners becoming (more) familiar with self-assessment? –CEFR-related tasks? –Idea of levels of proficiency? –Useful use of dossier? –Recognition of what is learned outside the school? –

dMe - Dick Meijer Talen Consultancy 7 ELP and self-assessment Of course by... –Using can do’s in checklists –Carrying out tasks which are clearly related –Showing examples of good practice –Explaining the role of dossier –Starting with products/dossier and after that using the checklist –Designing tasks with possibilities to show or use other know-how or competences

dMe - Dick Meijer Talen Consultancy 8 ELP and self-assessment Task Make a list of possible actions to increase the learners competence to assess himself Write it on a poster (aim: sharing ideas)
