The Bigger Picture… What will I be creating for my ‘Cultural’ themed Mask homework project? This is the first ‘full homework project’ that you have been set. It is designed to give you the experience of working on a complete project at home in preparation for the Year 11 exam. It will develop the skills you need to be successful next year! You are going to create a card 3D mask based on a culture of your choice. Each of the four assessment criteria will be covered during this project. Deadline Thursday 21st April

Year 10 Year 11 Prior Learning Art History (AO1) Traveller Information: We hope that you enjoy GCSE learning journey with us at Waseley Hills High School – if you need any support during your journey then please contact the programme controller: Art & Design GCSE ART & DESIGN Controlled Assessment Use of prior learning and targets from mock coursework projects along with practical skills learnt. Art & Design Homework You will receive a piece of Art homework each week. We advise that you bring in a USB stick so that we can save this terms homework tasks, examples and help sheets onto it for you. This is useful if you are away ill as you will still need to complete the homework. Marking of my work – the four areas of assessment are: AO1 - DEVELOP: Studying work by other artists or designers. AO2 - REFINE: Doing experiments to find out what works best for your ideas. AO3 - RECORDING: Making sketchbook drawings, notes, photographs and presentations. AO4 - RECORDING: Offering a final outcome & Evaluation.

Homework 1: Due in: Thursday 25th February AO1 Art History (25 Marks) AO2 Experiment (25Marks) AO3 Observation (25Marks) AO4 Main piece (25 Marks) You have two tasks to complete for this homework: You are to create a mood board based on one of the following cultures: Mexican Day of the Dead / African / Chinese / Japanese / Amerindian / Indian Your mood board should be mounted onto A3 black paper and should be full of images which reflect your chosen culture. The next slide (example A) gives you some examples of this. Divide your A3 paper in half. You are to present your paper sculpture technique experiments (produced in class time) on to the 1st half of your A3 sheet before adding notes to explain your methods. See example B1 Use the annotation help sheet on the next slide to help you to write these notes. On the 2nd half of your A3 sheet, you are to create a flat cut out paper mask. See example B2.
