2 Chapter 12 – Fire/Life Safety Hot Work Permits The Goal Of Hot Work Planning: Protect the Hot Worker. Protect Other Workers. Prevent Fires. Prevent Explosions. The Hot Work Permit will be Requested by Your FCM. Rick C. Erickson

3 Chapter 12 – Fire/Life Safety Hot Work Permits Permit Request Information will be Entered by the Field Construction Manager. ESH will Inspect the Area and Sign the Permit. No Hot Work Until Signed! Permit Valid for 1-8 Days.

4 Chapter 12 – Fire/Life Safety Hot Work Permits What You Need to Do: Fully Describe the Work. Establish Work Controls: Equipment Worker Qualifications/Training Proper PPE Protect Nearby Flammables/Combustibles

5 Chapter 12 – Fire/Life Safety Hot Work Permits Fire Watch Requirements – Fire Extinguisher Training – Recognize Ignition Hazards – Ability to Call 911 and x5555 – Maintain Watch 30 Minutes After Hot Work Other Duties: Only Tasks That Do Not Require the Fire Watch to Leave the Immediate Area. Surveillance Must Be Continuous.
