Aft. Capstan Location/Operations

In this training module we will look at the following piece of Deck Machinery: Aft Capstan We will also take a look at how this unit operates, the location of it’s HPU (where applicable), and other information important to know about this piece of equipment. Aft. Capstan

The Aft Capstan is for mooring and line handling. Vertically oriented, hydraulically operated: Coastal Marine Equipment C ► 5000 lbs of line pull at 60 feet per minute ► Hydraulic requirements- 2, GPM Aft. Capstan

Aft Capstan HPU: Located in Aft Hold Coastal Marine Equipment 20 HPU 480 VAC, 3 phase, 20 HP motor 2, GPM Local reset and power on/off Breaker on Main Switchboard

Aft. Capstan HPU Normally turned On/Off from Aft Wheelhouse Console. This ensures wheelhouse watch is aware Aft Capstan is going to be put into operation.

Aft. Capstan Directional Controls For Heave/Veer Note: Don’t stand in direction of line pull! Don’t be “this guy.” If line snaps, it could come straight back at him!
