Internet Connection Methods

Wireless What is wireless ?  Wireless is a type of internet which is a way of getting broadband internet without wires.  Wireless is used by wireless enabled devices, which are computers, mobiles, smart tablets, etc.  Wireless is exactly what it says, which is there are no wires needed to connect.

Advantages of Wireless  Not fixed to a stationary computer.  Can be used wherever there is a wireless hub that is accessaible.  No wires  Portable  Can be used wherever you are.

Disadvantages of Wireless  Need to have access to a wireless hub.  Can be less secure than wired connections.  Tends to have slower data transmission speeds than wired methods.  Affected by surroundings.

Broadband What is Broadband?  Broadband is a high-capacity transmission technique using a wide range of frequencies, which enables a large number of messages to be communicated simultaneously.

Advantages of Broadband  Broadband connections can give better reception.  Faster then dial up.  Unlimited access  Has a high download speed.

Disadvantages of Broadband  Expensive  Requires a base that is wired in, so it is less flexible then wireless.  Speed can varied so one day it could be fast

Dial up What is dial up?  A wired connection via a telephone line, which needs a modern to convert signals to and from analogue for transmission.

Advantages of Dial up  Can use existing telephone circuits, which is useful in some areas.  Cheaper then broadband.  The connections to dial up are safer.  Can use dial up wherever you are.

Disadvantages of Dial up  Older technology gives a poor reception at times.  Conversion from digital to analogue signals can cause errors.  Tends to be slower than other connection methods.  Have to connect manually.  Uses your telephone line.
