DEFINITION Simile: a comparison of two unlike things using the words like or as Simile: a comparison of two unlike things using the words like or as They are used in literature, songs and poems to enhance the writing AND mostly to show emphasis on a certain thing/idea/noun by contrasting it with something that is unlike itself. Confusing right?
EXAMPLES Her voice is like an angel’s wings. Her voice is like an angel’s wings. I am comparing her voice to the angel wings. I am comparing her voice to the angel wings. This tells my audience that her voice is soft and heavenly. This tells my audience that her voice is soft and heavenly.
